A personal guide to a place we’ve always called home

Our family has deep roots in northern New York. We spent summers exploring the islands, taking boat rides, and visiting family in Ogdensburg — and somewhere along the way, we fell in love with this region the way only people who grew up near it can. The beauty of the Thousand Islands isn’t something you discover in a brochure. You discover it on the water, early in the morning, when the mist is still sitting on the river.

30 years of connecting visitors to the region

1000Islands.com has been online since 1995 — which, in internet years, makes it older than Google. What started as a passion project to help people discover the Thousand Islands has grown into one of the most comprehensive visitor resources for the region, covering both the New York and Ontario sides of the St. Lawrence.

Over three decades the site has gone through many iterations, always with the same goal: help visitors find what they’re looking for, and help the businesses and communities of the Thousand Islands get noticed by the people who would love them most.

More than a business directory

There are plenty of places online to find a phone number. What 1000Islands.com tries to do is something different — give you a real sense of a place before you arrive.

Every business listing is more than a name and address. We include descriptions, photos, and context so you can get a feel for who these businesses are and whether they’re the right fit for your trip. Our articles go deeper still, covering the history, the hidden gems, the seasonal rhythms, and the practical details that make the difference between a good vacation and a great one.

We also focus on helping you find your kind of trip — whether that’s a family week at a waterfront resort, a solo fishing expedition on the St. Lawrence, a romantic weekend near Boldt Castle, or a day trip to explore the Canadian islands.

How listings work

Businesses can submit a free listing directly through the site. Every submission is reviewed by our team before it goes live. We verify that the business is genuinely located within the Thousand Islands region and that the listing meets the quality standards the site has maintained for thirty years. We don’t list businesses outside the region, and we don’t accept listings that don’t meet our editorial bar.

We also offer to write your business article for you — at no charge. Our goal is to make every listing as compelling and informative as possible, and sometimes that means lending a hand with the words. If you’d like help telling your story, just ask.

The result is a guide you can trust — one where every entry belongs there and every business is presented at its best.

Who’s behind it

This site is run by a small team with a shared passion for the Thousand Islands. We’ve been building and maintaining this site since 1995 and visiting the region for much longer than that. It’s a hobby that became a commitment — to the region, to the businesses that make it worth visiting, and to the travelers who deserve a trustworthy guide when they’re planning a trip.

If you have questions, want to submit a listing, or just want to share a memory of the islands, we’d love to hear from you.
