Before embarking on a sailing adventure in the 1000 Islands Region, be sure you are familiar with the location of the countless shoals that lurk below the surface. You will also want to keep close watch on the weather, which has a way of quickly changing in this area. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is any boat owner’s best friend. A number of marinas in the Thousand Islands Region cater to the special needs of sailors and their watercraft. You would be well advised to visit them before you set sail. Current nautical charts are essential for any form of boating in the 1000 Islands, but this may be espeically true when it comes to sailboats.
